New Show -- Box Five, Live @ Turtle Studios on 2/3/06!

It's a long ways off, for sure, but the following news is just so exciting that you have to hear about it now!!:

On February 3rd, 2006; Box Five will be playing a very special show at Turtle Studios in historic Old City Philadelphia. This will be an amazing two-hour show, featuring oodles of Box Five tunes both old and new. The sound will be engineered by Turtle's supafly staff (so you know it's gonna sound awesome), and the line up will feature both classical instrumentalists and traditional rock-n-roll players. Pop music is never going to be the same again, kids...don't miss this sure-to-be-phenomenal event! <3

The show is free (yay!), but the venue only seats 40, and seating will be first come first served, so be sure to show up sorta early! <3

The performance will also coincide with Old City's "First Friday" festival for February, a monthly event in which the area's many art galleries showcase new exhibits and installations to the public. First Friday festivities usually last from 5pm-9pm, so you'll still have time to check out the sculptures and landscape paintings before moseying on over to Turtle for the show. :)

Even if you don't live in Philadelphia, you should totally visit to check out this show -- see the performance, scope out the art galleries, sneak a peek at the Liberty Bell...make a weekend out of it! <3 Should be fun! <3

Here's all the info as it stands; more details will be added soon!:

Don't forget, you can catch kawaii little Mary, aka Box Five, playing a set this coming Saturday (October 22nd, 2005) at the Intermezzo Cafe. Intermezzo is located at 3131 Walnut Street in Philadelphia, right next to the World Cafe, and close to both Drexel and UPenn. The show starts at 8pm and admission is free. That's right, free! <3 But bring a couple bucks just in case, because you might end up wanting some coffee or a muffin or something. Mmmmm, muffins :O

Best of all, Mary will be joined on stage by classical guitarist Brent Missimer, and five-string violinst Robert Munsch. (Rob's violin has an additional string tuned to C natural, so it doubles as a violin AND a viola -- how frickin' cool is that!?)

New Box Five EP Recorded
OK OK, so it couldn't be kept a secret forever...maybe you'd be interested to know what Mary has been doing lately!:

On October 2nd, Mary paid a visit to the lovely Turtle Studios of Philadelphia, PA. The goal of her trip was to record a collection of tunes written specifically as "solo" songs -- compositions penned for one voice and one instrument. The session went swimmingly, and yielded an adorable EP with a working title of "Aqua Toffana".

Here is what the tracklist will be:

1. Exanimi
2. On Dying (for Attention)
3. Ceasefire
4. Aqua Toffana

Bonus Track:
5. Doctrines [Demo Version]

Tracks 1, 2, 3, and 5 feature Mary singing and playing Turtle's exquisite 1928 Steinway B, and on track 4 she is accompanied by her brother Joe on acoustic guitar.

The "bonus track", Doctrines, was recorded towards the end of the session simply as a demo, minus the additional instrumentation Mary has in mind for the "official" studio version. However, it turned out so lovely, that she wanted to include it anyway! :o)

The EP is currently being mastered, but there is no word yet on when or how it will be available for purchase. Mary is hoping to release the disc in conjunction with a record label, but if all else fails she will press the disc herself, as soon as she saves up the cash. w0rd.

Til then, you can watch for updates and other little snippets by visiting the main index, and clicking on the button that says "? ? ?".

Ooh, isn't it getting exciting! :D
