Mary & Arts in Motion: World Premiere of "Modern Art Song"
You'll never believe this -- Mary has been asked by progressive classical collective Arts in Motion to compose a piece for their annual spring concert on April 21st. The piece will written in the style of a lied, or "art song", with text adapted from Shakespeare's Hamlet serving as the tune's lyrics. Best of all, thanks to the marvels of modern science, there will be a large projection screen floating above the stage which, through a computer program, will allow audience members to see what synesthetic visions are conjured up in Mary's brain as she plays. So, all those colors and stuff she's always talking about...you'll get to see it for yourself! <3

Complete info is on the tourdates page, a'course! :D

Snow Hymn Remix: Ben Camp's "Beautiful Mystery" Interpretation
And!! Oh!! Arts in Motion artist, Movim master and all around amazing electronic composer Ben Camp has made a BEAUTIFUL remix of Box Five's Snow Hymn, entitled the "Beautiful Mystery" Interpretation, which you can download right HERE. How gorgeous is that?!?! Thanks, Ben! ♥ ♥

More on the way, more on the way! Enjoy this for now, and talk to you soon!

02/23/06 (tonight!!!) - BOX FIVE, LIVE @ THE TIN ANGEL

So what should you do this evening? Go to see the cutest ensemble ever, of course! :D

Silly classipop noisemakers BOX FIVE will be performing a set tonight at the prestigious Tin Angel in Old City Philadelphia. The line-up for this show is a very lovely one indeed: resident redhead Mary Bichner on vocals and piano, Brent Missimer on classical guitar, Tim Warneck on cello, and veteran B5er Doug Holton on congas and tambourine. Rehearsals for the gig have been sounding splendid -- the cello dominates the low-end in a bass-like fashion, the classical guitar twinkles in the upper register sounding almost like a harp, and Mary's piano playing falls mellowly in the middle, with the assorted percussion adding lots of bounce and spice. Hooray! :D

Tickets are $8.00 for this 21+ show (don't forget your ID!), and can be purchased at the door. Doors open at 8:00, and the music is set to begin around 8:30. BOX FIVE will be the first act to take the stage, so be sure to show up a bit early, to make sure you get a good seat! :o)

Also performing at the show will be elegant goth-pop group Stygian Veil; and up-and-coming songwriter Liz Longley, who has the dreamiest voice you have ever heard. Good times all around! <3

Now let's try that all again, in a concise list format, because some people like that stuff!!!:

New shows, new shows! :D

Allright! Hope you've recovered from last Friday's Turtle Studios show (click HERE to read Mary's diary entry about the affair), because new performances are on the horizon! :D Check 'em out!:

On February 23rd, you can catch Box Five at the one, the only...The Tin Angel! This illustrious Philly venue, located at 20 S. 2nd St. in Old City Philadelphia, usually only hosts national acts, so Mary is very excited to perform indeed. She'll be joined onstage by Brent Missimer (classical guitar), Tim Warneck (cello), and Doug Holton (congas). For this 21+ show, tickets are $8.00 (which can be purchased in advance via TicketWeb, start time will be 8:30pm, and the very fabulous Liz Longley and Stygian Veil will also be performing. Yay!

Then, on April 8th, pack up your knapsack and head out to Bryn Mawr College for yet another show, this time with Box Five as the headliner! (No word on the B5 line-up just yet for this concert, but most likely it will be a five-piece set-up of piano, guitar, bass, drums, and electric violin.) The show will take place on Cambrian Row located on the college's campus, and will be all ages. Admission is free for tri-col students with ID, and $5.00 for everybody else. The show starts promptly at 9pm and will also feature the delicious, cello-infused stylings of Playwright; as well as that singing/songwriting superhero, nightonlyvisual. Mary loves both of these bands, she's stoked!! :D

You can, of course, find all of this information on the tourdates page as well, carefully tucked into neat little tables of text. :) But it's more to read about show announcements in paragraph form, yes? :D Yes! :D

Talk to you soon kids, and hope to see you there!

Hugs,
