Arts in Motion shows this week
Don't forget! This Friday, April 21st (tomorrow!), progressive classical ensemble Arts in Motion will be holding its first annual spring concert, "Visual Music 1.0". A number of talented musicians will be peforming that evening, playing pieces both old and new. Our gal Mary will be performing a remixed version of Snow Hymn with electronica artist Ben Camp, and also officially premiering her latest work, a modern art song in the style of Schubert entitled "How Should I Your True Love Know". The show will take place at the Trinity Center (22nd and Spruce Streets, Philadelphia), show starts at 8pm, and tickets are $15; this info is on the tourdates page for you, too. Hooray! :D

Two Arts in Motion shows this week!

Yep yep yep! Catch that zany modern classical ensemble, Arts in Motion (featuring Box Five's silly Mary!!), at two awesome shows this week:

On Wednesday, April 19th, head on over to Fluid Nightclub (613 S. 4th Street; Phila, PA; 19147) for AiM's "Classical Clubbing" partay. Mary will be performing a special remixed edition of Snow Hymn with electronica artist Ben Camp, and oodles of talented AiMers will be performing as well. Show starts at ten, cover is $10.00, and it's 21+, so don't forget your ID!

Then on Friday, April 21st, pay a visit to Rittenhouse's Trinity Center for Urban Life (2212 Spruce Street; Phila PA, 19103) for AiM's "Visual Music 1.0" extravaganza. Among other artists performing that evening, Mary will be officially premiering her first-ever commissioned work -- a modern art song in the style of Schubert entitled "How Should I Your True Love Know" -- arranged for voice, piano, and string quartet. Best of all, there will be a biiiig projection screen floating over the stage with computer-generated visuals, that will simulate what Mary sees in her head as she plays, due to her synesthesia. How freakin' cool is that?! :D

Anyhoo, the show starts at 8pm, and tickets are $15 (but if you print out AiM's MySpace page and bring it with you, admission is only $10).

Hope you can come, hope you can!! :D See you!! :D

Download New Box Five EP - "fen"
Hooray! fen, the darker and sparser follow-up to last year's Exercises in Modern Pop EP, is now available for download on the Box Five jukebox page. And to listen, you don't even have to pay a penny -- it's free! :D Yay! :D

The tracks were recorded in October 2005 by Jeff Hiatt, at the very swanky Turtle Studios in Philadephia, PA. Mary took care of the piano and vocals, while her brother Joe Bichner strummed acoustic guitar on track #1 (thanks Joe!).

The tracklist is as follows:

BOX FIVE
fen
Release Date: 4/3/2006

1. Aqua Toffana
2. Doctrines [Solo Version]
3. Ceasefire
4. On Dying (for Attention)

These songs are a bit different from previous Box Five tunes -- for one, they're longer, averaging about five minutes per song; also, they're much darker and more melancholy -- but of course hopefully you will enjoy them anyway! :o)

Shows shows shows
Two awesome shows this week!!:

On Friday, April 7th, starting at 7pm, catch Mary at Turtle Studios (225 Quarry Street, Phila PA 19106) as she jams along with those crazy, loveable kids from Arts in Motion. In addition to giving everyone a sneak preview of the "modern art song" she's working on for AiM's upcoming spring concert, there may also be a Box Five solo tune or two thrown into the mix. Then stick around for the headlining act, Philly art rockers Like Moving Insects.

The following night, on Saturday, April 8th, head on out to Bryn Mawr college (check the Bryn Mawr website for directions) to see Box Five perform an hour long set. The line up will consist of Mary (piano/vocals), Joe Bichner (guitar), Jon Lonczynski (bass), Rob Munsch (electric violin), and Gary Dann (drums). The show starts at 9pm, and we're the headliner, yay! :D

It's sure to be an awesome show, especially considering the other bands playing that night -- Playwright, The Writing Birds, and Drive All Day -- are totally freaking awesome and superb. :D
