Tomorrow, 09/01/06: ARTS IN MOTION's provocateur @ the PMA
Man oh man oh man! This Friday, Little Miss Mary of Box Five is quite looking forward to performing with progressive classical ensemble Arts in Motion at the world-famous Philadelphia Museum of Art! She asked if she could make her entrance by running up the front steps like Sylvester Stallone in Rocky, but the program director said no. :( Alas. :(

Anyhoo! The concert, entitled provocateur, is a tribute to "visionary subversives who have shaped the evolution of art". Part of the PMA's Art After 5 series, provocateur will feature a host of world-class musicians including violinists Hannah Cole and Michelle Bishop, violist Jennifer Han, cellist Abe Fader, pianists/composers Eric Haeker and Maurice Roberts, electronic artists Ben Camp and Michael McDermott, guitarist Ian Cole, live video/visual artists John Phillips and Raphael DiLuzio, and....you know who! :)

Mary will be performing several compositions at this show, including classical pieces commissioned by AiM, B5 solo tunes re-worked for laptop and string quartet, and maybe an art rock cover song or two. Mary even got to arrange string parts for a handful of her tunes -- fun!! <3

The show is all-ages and free after museum admission; print out the front page of the Arts in Motion website for a special discounted admission price; you can visit it HERE.

Show starts at 5:45pm, but don't forget to show up early and get a good seat! <3

Complete info is on the tourdates page, as always.

Hope to see you there, and talk to you soon!

hugs!!,
BOX FIVE

Last night's Arts in Motion Show
Thank you thank you THANK you to everyone who came out to last night's Arts in Motion show at Turtle Studios! We had an absolutely wonderful time playing for you, you totally super rock! :D

Big hugs also to fellow AiMers Eric Haeker, Ben Camp, Jennifer Han, and John Phillips for their superb performances last evening! And of course, to those cool dudes at Turtle for letting us make noise in their basment! Hooray!

Mary performed a number of Box Five tunes last night (joined by the fabulous Ben Camp on laptop and the amazing Jennifer Han on violin); you can check out the list via the Pastgig Archive.

Don't forget -- Arts in Motion will be playing yet another show at the Philadelphia Museum of Art on Sept. 1; a visit to the tourdates page will equip you with all the details. <3

Box Five @ the Philly Song Shuffle, 09/12/06
And this just in - Box Five will be making an appearance at the 2006 Philly Song Shuffle; a concept concert that consists of "4-minute sets, 4-second set changes, 50 diverse artists on one stage, and a Philly-sized dose of complete mayhem". Each band gets to pick only one song for the peformance, and Mary is still trying to figure out which tune to play...any requests? :)

More details for this and all shows can be found on the tourdates page, as always.

Hugs everybody, and talk to you soon!

Much love,
BOX FIVE

Arts in Motion Presents: Classical Music Evolved
Live at Turtle Studios, Friday, August 4, 9pm
(pre-show video art in Turtle lot, 8pm)

Immerse yourself in the rich audio-visual world of Arts in Motion, featuring classical virtuosi, DJs, and experimental video art. Fusing classical elements with next generation electronics, Classical Music Evolved draws upon 500 years of musical evolution, from Mozart to Radiohead. A series of tightly sequenced suites (think B-side of Abbey Road) trace an audio-visual journey through a wide emotional range, from playful Mozartian math-rock to Chopin’s depths of despair, from Handel’s pious devotion to Bach’s simultaneously frantic and lyrical mysticism. Piano, violin, electronics, and the hauntingly beautiful voice of Mary Bichner will be interpreted via live-rendered music visualizations projected overhead.

Beginning at 8pm, join the pre-performance warm up in the Turtle Studios lot, complete with immense outdoor video art projections by John Phillips. Then join the musicians inside or enjoy the performance outside via Turtle’s live audio-visual feed to the lot.

ARTISTS
Mary Bichner -- composer, piano, and vocals
Jennifer Han -- violin
Ben Camp -- dj and electronic orchestration
Maurice Roberts -- keyboard and electronic orchestration
Dave Clayton -- dj and electronic orchestration
